One minute you’re overwhelmed and the next your heart is bursting with joy.

Welcome to motherhood

I hope you find here: a moment to pause, a feeling of encouragement and the inspiration you need to put your best mothering foot forward.

Hello, I’m Amy.

Mother of two easy-going boys, collector of sweet, delicate teacups and a homebody wife to a world traveling geologist. I love to bake almost as much as I love to eat. Swinging on the front porch, gathering friends together and walking among the aspens in fall are the things that fill me up.

Amy Canby Infant Childcare

I've always had an urge to nurture small things and have found opportunities throughout my life to care for babies and young children.  After receiving a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education I worked for ten years in a preschool as a teacher and Program Director, followed by two years at a community college daycare working with infants.

As a way of balancing the high energy level required in working with children, I certified as a massage therapist before starting my own family and moving overseas where we lived for eleven years in Austria and England. In 2008 my husband and two sons and I moved to Colorado where I began caring for infants and toddlers in my home, while simultaneously continuing my education and certifying as a Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator with CAPPA.

Babies want to be seen. Face to face. Looking into our eyes.
Babies learn to trust by being able to trust us.
Babies benefit from our willingness to be present when they’re upset, even if we can’t fix it.
Babies need hands on experience with their world.
A loosely structured rhythm can help babies regulate their eating and sleeping patterns.

Nurturing care for your little one.

Need trustworthy, professional care for your newborn baby or infant? I provide a peaceful environment for infants in my home, always responsive to their needs and with a focus on fostering a connection and creating opportunities for their budding development. I believe when babies are supported and cared for with respect, they feel comfortable to explore and discover. As well as tending to their physical needs, I spend time talking with them, reading and singing, going for walks and encouraging exploration of the world around them.

I'm here for you too!

As new parents we’re thrown into one of the most life-changing experiences we’ll ever have: that awe-inspiring job of raising human beings. My goal is to support you by sharing what I’ve learned from decades of parenting and childcare experience, as well as a lifetime fascination with these precious little beings who are counting on us to guide them safely and lovingly through their early years.

The Job Of Mothering

As a new mother you’ll be asked, “What did you do today?” While you’re stumbling for the words in your lack-of-sleep fog, let me step in with a few suggestions… Did you wake before you were ready, dragging your sleepy self to the side of the crib where you smiled when your little one’s eyes…

How To Calm A Crying Baby

There’s no doubt about it, motherhood provides moments of pure joy. It can also be exhausting, monotonous and stressful. Add the lack of sleep, fluctuating hormones and the massive changes – said to cause stress even if it involves something we wanted – and this perfect storm requires some coping mechanisms. It’s the end of…

Small Moments, Big Memories

As parents, we often think the big events will be the most memorable. The trip to Disneyland. The surprise puppy under the Christmas tree. The over-the-top birthday celebration. We build them up in our minds, convinced they’ll make a lasting memory. Today I pulled out my Daily Calendar Book from 1997, where for each day…

"Knowing our son was being cared for with the same love and attention that he received at home made leaving him with Amy easy. The attachment that was formed between the two of them has shaped our son's confidence with his place in the world. Beyond the love and cuddles, Amy provided the perfect balance of independent exploration and enriched learning. Amy is a special person who no doubt has a calling to love and enhance the lives of others. We feel incredibly fortunate to have Amy in our lives and caring for our son."

“Amy is one of the most genuine and caring people I’ve met.  We were very fortunate to have her care for our son.  The experiences he shared with Amy were truly special.  It was abundantly clear that she put all the love and energy she had into watching over him.  Amy was exceptionally communicative at drop off and pick up. It was great to hear about our son’s day. We are blessed to have her in our lives."

"The moment I met Amy, I could tell that she had a passion for caring for others. She brought a great deal of peace to our home with her kind, gentle spirit and her positive and reassuring attitude. She had a friendly and approachable personality, making it easy to have open and honest discussions about the care of my babies. Amy is kind, nurturing, patient, thoughtful, selfless, dedicated and sincere."

"It’s scary to leave your newborn for the first time. When we left Oliver with you, we both knew he was in the best place, allowing us to focus on work. Amy, you truly have a gift. We feel so fortunate to have had you care for Oliver."

"I’m so appreciative to leave Oscar with someone who has the capacity to provide high quality care for our child, while also being able to support and be flexible with us as first time parents. We’re grateful for the support you gave us, and especially Oscar, as we navigated spit up, sleeping and eating."
